UTOP Student Coordinator

The UTOP Student Coordinator position provides an opportunity for students to develop their professional skills working closely with the UTOP Program Director in the planning, coordination, and execution of UTOP. UTOP Student Coordinators are given a lot of responsibility and are expected to work in a professional manner. The UTOP Student Coordinator role is a key component in the UTOP scheme; it helps to ensure the scheme is discipline owned and student led. As a student coordinator, one is challenged to think critically about the holistic transition experience for first-year students. Working closely with the UTOP Program Director, student coordinators help to ensure the smooth running, maintenance and, importantly, development of the scheme. UTOP Student Coordinators have certain tasks that need to be fulfilled in order to succeed in the role, but this is paired with a great deal of freedom to be creative and inventive; the most successful student coordinators have been those that have put a lot of time and effort into thinking of new and interesting ways to enhance the UTOP experience for participants and mentors. Student Coordinators will go through trainings with the Program Director, the graduate assistant and previous staff members to help to prepare for the role, and support is provided on a regular basis throughout the year to ensure that they are will equipped to meet the expectations of the position. A crucial element to the success of UTOP Student Coordinators is good communication between the Program Director and student coordinators, and student coordinators and mentors.

  • Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better
  • Must be in good conduct standing with the university
  • Individual interview with UTOP Program Director
